Mastering Joomla: How to Add the Newsflash Module on Your Joomla Website

Joomla's newsflash module can be an incredibly useful tool for website administrators. It enables users to view important new events and posts on your Joomla website before they actually navigate through the site.

The Joomla newsflash module works by displaying short excerpts from a pre-existing content category. You even have the option of displaying the newsflashes vertically, horizontally, or by individual random items.

Joomla's newsflash is strongly recommended for webmasters who manage content that is frequently updated such as blogs and news headlines. Joomla has a newsflash module built into the directory so you do not have to download an add-on.

This tutorial will walk you through the process of adding the newsflash module on your Joomla website. The corresponding slide show has screen-shots of the steps involved. See this link: Add the Newsflash Module on Your Joomla Website

Step #1
To incorporate the newsflash module on your Joomla website, you have to first log-in to your Joomla administrative page.

Step #2
Now locate the Modules button near the top of the web page. On the drop-down menu that will appear, click Site Modules. On the next page that appears, you will then click Newsflash.

Step #3
Once you have completed this process, you will need to decide on the category in which you will import information for your newsflash section. After you have selected the content category, you start editing the newsflash page.

How to Manage Content on Joomla

Joomla is a content management system used to build many websites. Joomla features RSS feeding, page caching, web polls, blogs, and website searching. Joomla is one of the most widely used content management systems because of its ease of use and huge variety of features. Joomla has a very organized system of managing content. Content is broken down into three sections: sections, categories, and content items.

Joomla makes managing content very structured and organized. Sections in Joomla organize the categories; the categories contain many different types of content.
Sections >> Categories >> Content items

How to create Sections
Sections are the highest classification of content on Joomla. Here's how to create sections:
*First, you will need to go to the Content menu located near the top of the screen.
*On the Content menu, you will need to select the Section Manager option.
*After that, click the New icon located near the top-right of the screen.
*Once you click New, you will arrive at a form that you will need to fill out about the section. Fill in details such as title, description, and images.
*After you have finished, click Save in order to save the new section.

How to create Categories
Categories serve as folders within the many sections on your website. Creating a new category is very similar to creating a new section. Here's how:
* First, you go to the Content menu.
* On this menu, select the Category Manager option and click the New icon.
* On the category details form, you fill out information similar to the way you filled out information for sections. Make sure you select the parent section of the category, otherwise the category will not appear.
* Finally, click Save to save your information.

Adding and Editing

Joomla Tutorials: Adding and Editing Content and Images to a Joomla Web Site

This Joomla Tutorial covers how to create and edit content. There are two types of content in a Joomla web site. The two types of content are static content and content. Static content are pages that remain the same, are not categorized into a section or category and will not be syndicated (passed along to other sites if you have your syndication turned on).

How To Create New Content and Putting it in a menu

To create a new page from scratch, follow the instructions below.

1. Log in at www.yoursitename.com/administrator

2. Along the top row of menus, choose "content"

3. In the drop down menu, click "All content items"

4. After the list of content loads, click "New" at the top right of the page.

5. You must type a title. You can leave the "alias" area blank.

6. Choose "News" from the "Section" drop down menu at the top.

7. Choose "Latest News" from the "Category" drop down menu.

8. In the editing area, type what you want the page to say. To create a new paragraph, you must hit "shift" and "enter" at the same time.

9. To add images, follow the instructions for adding images to content. (see above - starting page 4)

10. When you are finished with that, you will need to create a link for the menu. On the right of the page, near the top, you will see "parameters", "images", publishing" and such. Click the tab that says "link to menu".

11. In the list of menus, click "At the frog". Do not choose any of the other menus. If you do, it will disrupt the layout of the site.

13. Click "Link to Menu" below that.

Editing Site Content (web site pages)

You can edit a web site page that is already on the site without having to log into the administration area if you have a log in area on your home page. Please read this entire page before editing the site.
